Redbirds dominate I-G; Ponies rock Orioles

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds boys basketball team needed only three quarters out of its seniors, cruising to a 73-42 win over Iowa-Grant Friday.

"The first quarter was pretty sloppy for the first six minutes," Darlington head coach Mike Hopkins said.

Darlington led just 18-12 after the first, but a 19-9 second quarter started the route. By the end of the third, the Redbirds led 62-30.

"We didn't even play our starters in the fourth," Hopkins said.

Tanner Havens scored 20 points to lead Darlington. Alex Erickson had 19 points, including three 3-pointers and 11 Redbirds reached the scorebook.

Barneveld 51, Juda 33

JUDA - Logan Johnson and the Golden Eagles were too much for the Panthers to handle.

Johnson scored 13 points and Barneveld led early and throughout. After the first quarter, Juda found itself behind 14-4. By halftime, the deficit was 31-15.

"We did a good job breaking their press," Panthers head coach Kyle Krueger said. "But we missed free throws and gave them second chance opportunities.

Joey Jordan led the Panthers with 13 points and Brandon Bauman had 10.

Monticello 75, Argyle 23

MONTICELLO - The Ponies scored 25 points in the first quarter on their way to a dominating win over the Orioles.

Jacob Marty scored a game-high 21 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead Monticello. Tyler Meier (12) and Lucas Kolasch (11) also reached double figures. Kolasch drained three 3s.

Monticello led 25-6 after the first quarter and 45-18 at halftime.

Eleven Ponies scored in the game. Nate Thomas paced Argyle with eight points.

Pecatonica 48, Albany 37

BLANCHARDVILLE - Jeremy Meudt scored 19 points, including four 3s, to lead the Vikings past the Comets.

Albany jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter, only to have the advantage slip to 20-17 at the break.

Pecatonica outscored the Comets 12-8 in the third, and a dominating 19-9 run in the fourth closed the door.

Pecatonica's Devin Jeglum and Albany's Bryce Hulbert each scored 11 points.
