Redbirds, Cardinals stunned

DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls basketball team struggled shooting from the free throw line and lost a non-conference game to Platteville 66-52 Tuesday.

The Hillmen jumped out to a 13-8 lead and led by nine points at halftime.

"We played aggressive defense and battled," Darlington coach Mike Chambers said. "We can't shoot 48 percent from the free throw line in tight games."

Darlington's Cassidy Cambers scored 12 points and had five rebounds. Junior Amy Jorgenson scored 12 points and had four assists and three steals. Darlington senior Carly McDonald had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Darlington (3-1, 2-0 SWAL) will play Iowa-Grant Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Mineral Point 48, Brodhead 45

BRODHEAD - Mineral Point's Hannah Lawinger hit a deep buzzer-beating 3-pointer to stun Brodhead.

The Cardinals (2-3, 2-0 Rock Valley) have now lost three games by a total of five points. Brodhead led 13-9 after the first quarter and by five points at halftime. The Pointers outscored the Cardinals 18-9 in the third quarter.

Brodhead freshman Carley Mohns scored 11 points to lead the Cardinals. Brodhead sophomore Mariah Ahrens scored 10 points and senior Mariah Mohns added eight.

Albany 43, Orfordville Parkview 42

ORFORDVILLE - The Albany girls basketball team knocked off Parkview in a non-conference game.

Albany (4-2) was led by senior Hayli Peach who had 15 points. Senior Hillary Best scored eight points and senior Sydney Bump added seven. The Comets led 22-17 at halftime and were able to hang on for the win.
