PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - Two days after winning their own home quad by 15 strokes, the Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team ran away with the six-team Prairie du Chien Invitational by 53 strokes Wednesday.
The Redbirds finished won the meet with a 398, followed by Southwestern (451), Lancaster (461), Prairie Du Chien (477), Westby-Viroqua (481), and Tomah (489).
"We really played well and outdistanced ourselves," Darlington-Cuba City coach Gary Ringen said. "That's an awfully tough course over there. It's long and hilly, and today was really humid and hot. They got a workout."
The Redbirds were lead by senior Naomi Black's 88, which was the lowest individual score for the par 72 course and, as Ringen said, all-the-more impressive considering she had a nine on one hole.
Senior Nikki Zimmerman carded a 97 for second, and senior Kayla Paquette took fifth with a 100.
"Kayla played real steady," Ringen said. "On the first couple of holes, (Nikki) really had some problems but settled down and leveled off. She really brought it back with steady play."
Junior Sami Poss, fresh off of earning medalist honors at the home invite Monday, rounded out the team card with a 113.
Senior Tina Kurschner, playing in just her second 18-hole match of her varsity career, carded a 116. Since hers was the highest on the team, it was dropped from the final team score.
Regardless, Ringen was pleased with Kurschner's performance.
"I'm really proud of her," Ringen said. "She really hung in there and played. She's a new name in there, but she's really been coming on. She did a great job."
The win over the other five teams puts Darlington-Cuba City's record at 21-1 - a start Ringen is more than pleased with.
"That's about as good a start as we've ever had," Ringen said.
The Redbirds' next match will be a dual meet at Lancaster at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6.
