PLATTEVILLE - The Darlington girls track team proved to be the class of the Benton Invitational, sweeping every relay Saturday at UW-Platteville.
The Redbirds, who were the Division 3 state runner-up last year, won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays in dominating fashion. The Redbirds' 800 relay team of Kelsi Blosch, Hannah Huffman, Chayse Hermanson and Taryn Evenstad finished first with a time of 1 minute, 56.41 seconds. The 1,600 relay team of Blosch, Lisa Kreidler, Olivia Wedig and Evenstad took first with a time of 4:29, which was about eight seconds ahead of runner-up River Ridge.
In one of the most dominating performances for the Redbirds, Ciara Weigel, Shawni Smith, Amy Jorgenson and Kayla Lange finished first in the 3,200 relay with a time of 11:03.09, about 21 seconds ahead of Fennimore.
Lange won the 400 in 1:03.19 and Wedig finished first in the 800 (2:39.65).
Pecatonica senior Elise Sigg won the 1,600 (5:38), finishing ahead of Darlington's Hana Miehe (5:50.48). Fellow Pecatonica-Argyle runner Holly Vlasak finished first in the 55 (:7.95).
The Vikings won the sprint medley with a team of Elise Sigg, Vlasak, Kendra Sigg and Brittany Ziller and a time of 4:40.43, which was about four seconds ahead of Fennimore. The Vikings added a third-place finish in the 800 relay.
Elizabeth Mathias took third place in the high jump (4-6) and Brianna Reichling took third in the shot put (29-5 1/4). Evenstad and Sydney Schulte finished in a four-way tie for third place in the pole vault (6-0).
