CUBA CITY - The Darlington boys track team ran to the WIAA Division 3 Cuba City regional championship Tuesday.
Darlington outdistanced Cuba City 164-124 over Cuba City for the regional team title. Albany finished fifth place (58 points) and Monticello was sixth (50) in the 10-team meet. Black Hawk took eighth (21) and Pecatonica-Argyle was last (5).
Darlington junior Jaden Komprood won a regional championship in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 2.5 seconds. There were four area sectional qualifiers in the 1,600. Darlington freshman Tanner Evenstad finished second place in the 1,600 (5:06.96) and Albany junior Josh Little took third place (5:07.31). Monticello senior Dylan Beckwith took fourth place (5:13.30).
The Redbirds also had three of the four area sectional qualifiers in the 3,200. Darlington senior Thomas Schultz won the 3,200 (10:47.70) and Komprood took second (10:49.82). Albany senior Brennan Bloedel finished third (10:49.83) and Darlington junior Sean Barbee took fourth (10:51.60). Darlington senior A.J. Coulthard won the discus (162-4).
Monticello senior John Zuber won a regional championship in the 800 (2:05.8) and junior teammate Drew Yaun won the 400 (53.18).
Darlington senior Dane Siegenthaler took second place in the 800 (2:07.06) and junior teammate Blake Cwynar was third (2:08.44).
The Redbirds qualified four relays for the sectional including regional championship relays in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-relays. The Redbirds' 800 relay team of Trevor Johnson, Cole Trumble, Jared Meister and Kade Carey won the race with a time of 1:39.31) and Albany took third (1:43.44). Johnson and Trumble teamed with Siegenthaler and Jason Singer to win a regional title in the 1,600 relay (3:38.35). The other area 1,600 relay qualifiers are Monticello, which took second place (3:42.82) and third-place Albany (3:43.22).
Siegenthaler teamed with Komprood, Cwynar and Schultz to win the 3,200 relay (9:01.21). The other area teams to qualify for the sectional in the 3,200 relay include second-place Albany (9:08.21), and third-place Monticello (9:17.34).
Monticello senior Thorin Croushore took second in the 300 hurdles (45.15). Darlington freshman Grady Rielly finished second in the 110 high hurdles (16.95) and third in the 300 hurdles (45.34).
Darlington sophomore Mitchell Wagner took second place in the high jump (5-10) and Johnson was fourth (5-6). Trumble finished second in the triple jump (37-0 1/4) and Wagner was third (36-0 3/4). Junior teammate Conrad Blosch finished fourth place in the pole vault (10-6).
Albany junior Tyler Dahl took third place in the long jump (18-1 1/2).
In the girls' regional meet, Benton-Shullsburg/Scales Mound/Shullsburg won the regional team title 186.5-174.5 over Cuba City. Darlington took third place (82.5), Pecatonica-Argyle finished fourth (54) and Albany was fifth (49) out of 10 teams. Monticello finished eighth (26) and Black Hawk was ninth (22).
Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Josie Penniston finished second place in the 100 (13.07) and second in the 400 (1:00.73). Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Taetum Pagel took second in the 200 (30.0) and fourth in the high jump (4-6). Black Hawk freshman Brianna Hagen was fourth in the 200 (30.53).
Darlington freshman Kennedy Rankin won a regional title in the discus (128-1) and senior teammate Johanna Meister took second in the 800 (2:30.20).
Albany junior Sydnee Woyak took second in the 1,600 (5:56.25) and Monticello junior Ashley Risley was fourth (5:59.46). In the 3,200, Albany freshman Emma Guenther finished second place (13:14.71) and Darlington freshman Emma Crist took third (13:27.04) followed by Risley who took fourth (13:27.99).
Albany junior Ciearria Mortaloni finished fourth place in the 400 (1:09.50) and freshman teammate Madeline Halverson was fourth in the 800 (2:40.02).
The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Carly Langkamp, Erin Wolf, Paige Schilling and Meister won a regional title (10:44.43). The Redbirds' 1,600 relay team finished third (4:18.97). Darlington's 400 relay finished fourth (55.62) and the 800 relay took fourth (2:00.27). Langkamp added a third-place finish in the pole vault (8-0).
Albany's 3,200 relay team finished second (10:52.92).
Pecatonica-Argyle's 800 relay took third (1:58.79) and the Vikings' 1,600 relay was fourth (4:30.45) and the 3,200 relay team was fourth (11:34.83).
