Speedway nearing season finale

DARLINGTON — In the second to last week of racing Aug. 7 before the season championship at the Lafayette County Speedway, the point standings are beginning to look clearer.

Eric Beau (23) of Benton has 227 points in the Four Cylinders class, which is 12 points ahead of Dickeyville’s Dylan Kuhl and is 14 more than of Gratiot’s Jared Kingery. At the Aug. 7 race, Kuhl (83) beat out Kingery (911) for the checkered flag, with Beau finishing fifth.

In the Sport Modifieds, Hazel Green’s Jason Roth (31) has a 10-point lead over Benton’s Mike Hoffmann and is 22 ahead of Winnebago’s Mike Coogan. Roth won the most recent race, with Hoffmann taking second and Freeport’s Dustin Wilkinson finishing third. Coogan was sixth.

The Limited Late Model class will go down to the wire, with Freeport’s Jamie Pfeiffer (56) holding a slight 2-point lead on Benton’s Jason Robbins. Pfeiffer took second to Robbins Aug. 7, with Dubuque’s Steve Schueller finishing third. 

In the Hobby Stock class, Dakota Simonsen (60) of Fairfax, Iowa, won the most recent race, with Dubuque’s David Crimmins taking second and Shullsburg’s Matt Bennett third. Crimmins is at the top of the point standings, with Bennet and Monroe’s Thomas Wood in second and third.

Joe Huenefeld (33J) won the Modified class, edging out Darlington’s Matt Crist (8C) for the win. Freeport’s Brad Moring (555) was third. Jeff Larson of Freeport, who was 11th, holds the season points lead in the division, one spot ahead of Freeport’s Mike Fryer and two above Monroe’s Derek Thompson.

The final weekly racing event will be held Aug. 14, with the season championship scheduled for Aug. 21. Four weeks later, Sept. 18 and 19, the Bob Larson Memorial Race will be held.
