LA CROSSE — New Glarus graduate Grace Nommensen was one of eight offensive players nominated for the WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for September 18.
In the UW-La Crosse Invite, Nommensen played in all 16 sets, tallying 23 kills, 74 assists, 10 aces, 26 digs and nine blocks. The Eagles won the invite, going 4-0. On the season, Nommensen is second on the team in assists (297) and aces (24).
Kirsten Anderson, a senior from UW-Whitewater, was named the offensive volleyball Athlete of the Week.
Anderson led the No. 10-ranked Warhawks to a 3-0 record at their home invitational held Sept. 15-16. She registered 13 kills, while committing a single error in the team’s 3-1 win over College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) to open the invitational. Anderson followed with a 10-kill, 8-block performance to lead UW-Whitewater to a 3-1 victory over No. 16-ranked Transylvania University (Ky.). She added 10 more kills (without a single attack error) and seven blocks, including three solos, in a 3-1 triumph over No. 7-ranked Washington University in St. Louis. For the week, Anderson hit .453 averaging, 2.75 kills per set. After adding 17 blocks to her season total, Anderson now ranks third in NCAA Division III in blocks per set.
