WHITEWATER — Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus, is one of three members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater track and field program who were selected first team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America for the 2019-20 season.
Zimmerman, a senior, and junior Quinn Halversen (Rockford Christian) of the men’s team and junior Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc Lincoln) of the women’s team garnered the honor for Division III cross country and track and field in District 6, which includes schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
All three will be eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-America teams, which will be announced later this month.
Zimmerman carries a cumulative 3.96 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and graduated last month with a degree in accounting. A 2018-19 CoSIDA third team Academic All-America honoree, Zimmerman qualified for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put and is a four-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference top-eight placer for his career. He served as a captain for two seasons and was a three-year WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member and two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic student-athlete, and was a 2019-20 UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete.
Halversen, a captain during the 2020 season, placed ninth in the high jump at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He has finished among the top five in the high jump at each of his last four conference meets, including fourth place at the 2020 WIAC Indoor Championships. Halversen is a two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and a 2019 USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. He carries a 4.00 cumulative GPA and is majoring in supply chain & operations management.
Nickels is a two-time national qualifier in the indoor long jump, claiming the 2020 WIAC championship in the event and garnering All-America accolades from the USTFCCCA. A two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and USTFCCCA All-Academic team, Nickels has placed among the top eight in the conference at all five of her WIAC meets. She is majoring in accounting and finance and carries a 3.96 GPA.
