NCAA Cross Country Championships qualifiers revealed

INDIANAPOLIS — Four men’s teams and one women’s squad from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) have qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships that will be held at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Nov. 23. 

In the men’s championship, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater secured bids into the 32-team field. The Eagles received an automatic bid by winning the NCAA Division III North Regional, while the Blugolds, Pointers and Warhawks earned at-large spots.

UW-La Crosse will be competing in the national event for the 41st time in program history, while UW-Stevens Point is making its 22nd appearance, UW-Eau Claire its 12th and UW-Whitewater its 10th. 

New Glarus graduate Thomas Nelson is a member of the UW-Eau Claire men’s team.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s Caden Schneider will participate as an individual. 

In the women’s race, UW-La Crosse secured an automatic bid in the 32-team field by winning the NCAA Division III North Regional. This will mark the 39th appearance for the Eagles. 

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Keeley Behr, UW-Oshkosh’s Amelia Lehman, UW-Stout’s Mckayla Felton, Brekkyn Lammert and Arely Jaime Luevano, and UW-Whitewater’s Ari De La Cerda will participate as individuals. 

Brodhead graduate Madelynn McIntyre is a member of the UW-La Crosse women’s team.

The national championship will be hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The women’s race will begin at 10 a.m. and be followed by the men’s race at 11 a.m.
