MONROE — Sign up for the city singles and doubles tennis tournament is underway.

Both the singles and doubles tournaments will take place on July 20 and 21. This is the 48th year of city tournaments sponsored by the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department.      

Players may choose to sign up just for singles or doubles, or to play in both singles and doubles. There will be a Men’s Open Singles, Women’s Open Singles, Men’s Open Doubles and a Women’s Open Doubles bracket. All brackets are double elimination and all matches will be two out of three sets with a tiebreaker played in lieu of a third set.      

All players must sign up for the tournament by noon on Friday, July 19. Once a bracket reaches 16 players, no more entrants will be allowed in that bracket.       

All participants will be notified of their start time during the afternoon of Friday, July 19. The Women’s Open Singles bracket will start play at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 20 with the Men’s Open Singles bracket starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20. Doubles brackets will start play after the first round of singles. Championship rounds, and potentially semifinal rounds, will be played on Sunday, July 21.
