People from the surrounding area including other surrounding states attend the Monroe Parks & Recreation Department’s annual Cheese City Classic Martial Arts Tournament. This year’s event will be Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Monroe Middle School.

MONROE — Monroe Parks & Recreation Department will hold their 5th Annual “Cheese City Classic” Martial Arts Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Monroe Middle School, 1510 13th St. 

Tournament Director will be Master Aric Barnard, from ELITE Tae Kwon Do.  Registration is at 9 a.m., Black Belt Judges meeting 9:30 a.m. and tournament begins 10 a.m.  White Belts and above can participate. Spectators are free.  Events will include: Forms, boards, sparring and weapons (open or traditional).   To compete in sparring, the following equipment is required: Sparring gloves, head and feet protection, mouth guard and male support cup.  Awards will be given out after each event.  


There will be three grand champions in forms:

  Colored belt grand champion

♦  Youth black belt grand champion (12-17)

♦  Adult black belt grand champion (18-up)

There will also be an award for overall sparring grand champion in adult men’s and adult women’s fighting.

Register at the Parks & Recreation temporary office in the Streets Department: 1064 5th Ave, or at the Middle School on the day of the event.  Call the office with any questions: 608-329-2460. Members of ELITE Tae Kwon Do will assist in judging.
