ARGYLE — The Beavers had a rollercoaster of a ninth inning in a 12-11 walk-off win over Blanchardville in a Home Talent Sunday League game June 23.

Leading 10-8 entering the final frame, the Bullets plated three runs to take a one run lead thanks to an RBI double by Cody Carmody and a 2-out, 2-RBI single by Colton Schraepfer.

In the bottom half of the frame, Argyle sent the top of the order up to bat and on the third pitch he saw, Dylan Schwitz roped a double to center field to get into scoring position. Two batters later, Hogan Edwards singled to left to tie the game. With bases loaded, Kramer Henning hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to right, scoring Edwards to end the game.

Schwitz finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs, while Edwards was 3 for 4 with four runs scored, two hit by pitches and three steals. Lee Bohlman had three hits for Argyle, while Henning was 1 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs. Cory Stamn had two hits as well for the Beavers.

Carson Carmody and Cody Carmody each had three hits and a double for the Bullets, while Jared Carney was 2 for 5 with three RBIs.

Drew Schliem was hung with the loss for Blanchardville, tossing 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing four runs on nine hits, a walk and a hit batter. Kris Rieder got the start for Argyle and lasted just 3.2 innings. Ryan Erickson then tossed five innings in relief before Colton Ploessl got the final out in the top of the ninth.

Argyle took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but a 7-run fourth by Blanchardville knocked Rieder out of the game. The Beavers counted with a 4-run fourth inning and tied the game at 8-8 with a 3-run fifth. Argyle scored a run in each of the sixth and eighth to pad the lead before the tense ninth.

The win keeps Argyle (5-4) within a game of first-place Wiota (5-2) in the Western South Division. Shullsburg-Benton (4-4) and Hollandale (4-4) remain in the mix, while Blanchardville (3-5) and Ridgeway (1-7) are on the outside looking in.

Thursday Night League

Shullsburg-Benton 5, Argyle 1

Shullsburg-Benton (3-0) scored three runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to get the win.
