Rebel Strikers make nice run

VERONA - The Rebel Strikers U-12 girls team posted three straight shutouts to advance to the semifinals before being eliminated from the Madison Area Youth Soccer Association tournament last weekend.

The Rebel Strikers defeated the Madison Magic 3-0, topped McFarland 3-0 and edged Madison Velocity 1-0 to reach the semifinals, where the Belleville Bulldogs prevailed 1-0.

Brynn Ritschard had two goals and assist, and Morgan Seffrood added the third goal against the Magic. Seffrood made three saves in the first half and Emily Benzschawel made three stops in the second.

Against McFarland, Ritschard snapped a scoreless tie in the second half on a penalty kick and Olivia Werth added the other two goals - one off a corner kick from Ritschard. Benzschawel had four first-half saves and Seffrood had one after the break.

Against the Velocity on Sunday, Ritschard scored the game's lone goal and Seffrood had seven saves to record the shutout.

In the semifinal contest, Benzschawel made four first-half saves as the teams went into the intermission scoreless.

Seffrood made five saves in the second half, when Belleville scored late to advance to the championship.
