MONONA - The Argyle volleyball team's postseason run came to an end Thursday as Randolph swept the Orioles in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal at Monona Grove High School.

Argyle led a good portion of the first set, but Randolph came back to pull out a 26-24 win. The Rockets then topped the Orioles 25-19, 25-19 in the final two sets.

"I think a lot of momentum changed after that first set," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "We were up. We just couldn't finish, and Randolph has a very good defense. They were very scrappy. They gave it their all. They have nothing to hang their heads about."

Argyle junior Ashley Bruehlman had a team-high 12 kills, 22 digs and two aces. Senior Kayla-Butler Paulson racked up 22 assists and added 12 digs. Sophomore Jena Saalsaa had eight kills, and senior Sam Mick posted two blocks.

Argyle finished the season with a 17-8 record, repeated as Six Rivers East Conference champions and won the program's first regional title since 1990.

Argyle is the first team in the tournament to score more than 17 points in a set against Randolph.

"I'm really proud of the way we played against Randolph," Butler said. "We accomplished a lot this year."

Randolph (31-6) advances to the sectional final and will play Hilbert at 7 p.m. Saturday in Beaver Dam.
