JUDA - The Panthers rode freshman pitcher Amber Ramos on their way to a 7-3 softball win Monday over Monticello.

Ramos struck out eight hitters and allowed just one hit for Juda (8-8, 6-1 Six Rivers East). Her counterpart, Mary Hershberger, struck out just four hitters and allowed 11 hits.

"We hit the ball pretty well tonight," Juda coach Bill Davis said.

Taylor Klitzke picked up the only hit for the Ponies in the third inning. Monticello took advantage of seven walks and three errors by the Panthers' defense to score a run in the first and two more in the seventh.

"We're working on our defense and not making as many mistakes. But we attacked the ball well at the plate. We really thought it would be a pitchers' duel," Davis said.

Ramos went 2-for-4 at the plate, sophomore Megan Trotter and freshman C.J. Dunwiddie each were 2-3 with a double, and sophomore Lauren Dunwiddie was 2-3.

Barneveld 7, Albany 1

BARNEVELD - The Comets (1-7, 1-5) trailed Barneveld (7-4, 5-1) 3-1 headed into the sixth inning before allowing four runs Monday.

"It was really fun to be at 3-1 against them," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said.

Albany freshman Katie Krupke struck out five hitters, walked five and allowed seven hits in six innings of work.

"She looked really tired out there. We were going to pull her after the third inning. She threw a lot of pitches and had a lot of walks by then. She turned it around, though, and cruised the next few innings," Wunschel said. Krupke pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning on just four pitches.

The Comets surrendered a pair of runs in the second inning and another in the third. Albany reached the scoreboard in the fourth. Kaitlyn Schultz reached on the Eagles' lone error and later scored.

Megan Farley was 3-3 for Albany, and Clare Koopmans and Abby Cook collected the other two of the Comets' five hits.

"I just wish more kids in the order would get hot like Megan did," Wunschel said.
