Raiders take third in Capitol tourney

LAKE MILLS - The Sugar River wrestling team had eight wrestlers finish in the top four to cruise to a third-place finish in the Capitol Conference tournament on Saturday.

Sugar River had three wrestlers finish second and took third place in the tournament with 168 points. Lodi won the tournament team title 372.5-217 over Poynette. It's the 24th straight conference title for Lodi. However, Sugar River was the Capitol South Conference champion.

Sugar River's John Chenoweth (26-10) at 126 pounds went 3-1 in the tournament and finished second. After receiving byes in the first round and in the quarterfinals, Chenoweth pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Paul Grunewald in 5 minutes, 9 seconds. Lodi's Brandon Errthum (24-12) edged Chenoweth in the title match 10-7.

Sugar River's Tanner Jelle (11-12) at 182 went 3-1 to take second. After byes in the first round and quarterfinals, Jelle pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Miles Loescher in 1 minute, 20 seconds. Poynette's Joe Stephens (31-5) pinned Jelle in the title match in 1:35.

Sugar River's Trent Siegenthaler (21-9) at 195 also finished second. Siegenthaler also went 3-1 in the tournament. After two byes, Siegenthaler pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Phillip Treptow in 2:35. In the championship match, Marshall's Justin Chadwick pinned Siegenthaler in 3:32.

The Raiders had two wrestlers take third including Max Gerner (120) and Jack Dietrich (138). Gerner pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Javin Hollis to seal third. Dietrich beat Cambridge's Jeff Anderson 5-2 in a third-place match.

Sugar River's Tyler Varney (152), Calvin Binger (170) and Daniel Enloe (220) each took fourth.



Rock Valley

EDGERTON - Evansville-Albany crowned six conference champions to roll to the Rock Valley Conference team championship on Saturday.

The Blue Devils racked up 369 points to win the 11-team tournament. Beloit Turner took second (309) followed by Whitewater (276).

Evansville-Albany Chase Katzenmeyer improved to 30-0 by winning a conference title at 126. Senior teammate Jordan Meyer improved to 33-1 at 145 with a championship and junior Lucius Rinehart improved to 32-2 and a title at 195.

Brodhead-Juda had seven wrestlers finish in the top four. Brodhead-Juda's Tyler Hoesly (160) went 3-1 in the tournament to take second. After a first-round bye, Hoesly (31-9) defeated Evansville-Albany's Jake Lyle 13-2. Hoesly then beat Whitewater's Thomas McManaway 5-1 in the semifinals. East Troy's Jeremy Dedick (36-5) defeated Hoesly in the championship match in a technical fall in 4:30.

Brodhead-Juda's Blake Burns (120) went 4-1 in the tournament to take third. He pinned Clinton's Clay Ward in 1:17 in a quarterfinal match. The only loss for Burns came to East Troy's Cody Vogel (38-3) who pinned him in 4:32. In a consolation wrestleback, Burns (29-13) beat Evansville-Albany's Hunter Georgeson 9-3. Burns pinned Palmyra-Eagle's Rickey Smith in 2:56 in a third-place match. Senior teammate Trent Davis (220) also went 4-1 to take third.

After a first-round bye, Davis defeated Whitewater's Bryce Peche 8-2 in a quarterfinal match. East Troy's Kyle Storandt (34-4) then pinned Davis in 1:34 in the semifinals. Davis (25-16) rebounded and pinned Clinton's Jenson Herrera in 1:29 for third.

The Cardinals had four wrestlers finish 3-2 and take fourth in the tournament including Theodore Policastro (126), Kaleb Erb (132), Jeffery Williams (138) and Nick Hack (152).



SWL/SWC Clash

MINERAL POINT - In the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League-Southwest Wisconsin Conference Clash, Black Hawk-Darlington had five wrestlers in the top four of their individual weight classes to take fifth place.

Fennimore scored 282 points to edge River Valley (250) for the team title. Mineral Point (249) took third and was the top SWAL team in the 13-team tournament.

Black Hawk-Darlington senior Taylor Evenstad (220), after two byes, pinned Iowa-Grant-Highland's Brent Rider in 2:58. Dodgeville's Brady Wetter pinned Evenstad in the title match in 1:27. Senior teammate Conrad Blosch also took second.

After a first-round bye, Blosch pinned Riverdale's Terry Hrubes in 3:31. He then edged Boscobel's Preston Baker 5-2. Fennimore's Louis Heberlein beat Blosch in a nail-biter in the title match 5-4.

Black Hawk-Darlington's Kolbe Ubersox (120) and Lance Ubersox (152) each took third. Lance Ubersox pinned Dodgeville's Brock Rule in 1:59 in a quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, Prairie du Chien's Clayton Beers beat Ubersox 10-0. Ubersox bounced back by pinning Lancaster's Collin Lull for third in 2:05.

Lance Ubersox at 152 edged Dodgeville's Joey Recob 7-6 in a quarterfinal match. Lancaster's Dustin Reynolds then pinned him in the semifinals in 1:06. Ubersox then won a nail-biter 7-6 over Mineral Point's Lucas Sanchez for third place.

Black Hawk-Darlington's Connor Novak (126) went 2-2 to take fourth.
