WISCONSIN DELLS - The Sugar River wrestling team had two wrestlers finish in the top two at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational on Saturday.
Both John Chenoweth at 126 pounds and Jonah Thompson (heavyweight) finished second in the tournament Saturday. Chenoweth (23-9) pinned Homestead's Brice Scholtus in 3 minutes, 59 seconds and then defeated Watertown's Nick Logan 10-2. In the championship match, Waunakee's Zachary Marek pinned Chenoweth in 5:02.
Thompson (11-10) pinned Brillion's Jesse Priest in the first round in 1:42. Thompson then pinned Chippewa Falls' Sawyer Lubes in 12 seconds in the semifinals. Waunakee's Alan Olkowski then defeated Thompson in the title match 6-0.
Waunakee won the 12-team tournament 202.5-199.5 over Grand Meadown/Le Roy-Ostrander/Kingsland. Sugar River finished fifth (96.5).
The Raiders had a trio of wrestlers take fourth place including Justin Knoebl (113), Max Gerner (120) and Trent Siegentahler (195). Each of the three wrestlers went 2-2 on Saturday.
Christian Jacobsen of Grand Meadown/Le Roy-Ostrander/Kingsland pinned Knoebl in a third-place match in 3:59. Wisconsin Dells' Maverick Platt (120) beat Gerner 10-4 in a third-place match. Waunakee's Trevor Statz (195) pinned Siegenthaler for third in 1:52.
