Raider boys surge to title

BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River boys track team ran to an unprecedented 16th straight Capitol South Conference championship Tuesday.

Sugar River's Colton Boley won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (41.17) and took third place in the 110 high hurdles (16.45). Sugar River's Landon Zimmerman won a conference championship in the discus (162 feet, 2 inches) and took second in the shot put (50-2 1/2). Sugar River senior Mike Fink captured a conference title in the shot put (50-6 1/2).

The Raiders won the 400 relay (45.27) and took second in the 1,600 relay (3:35.68). Sugar River won the overall Capitol Conference championship that included schools from the North 118-98.67 over Lodi. Cambridge took third (93.5) in the 11-team meet.

Sugar River senior Ryan Hayes finished second in the 200 (23.53) and second in the long jump 20-6 1/2). Junior Tyler Gilbertson took second in the 1,600 (4:36.21).

Sugar River senior Brandon Shemanski took third in the 100 (11.68) and third in the long jump (20-5 1/2).

In the girls' conference meet, Sugar River finished third (86.5). Lakeside Lutheran ran away with the team title 179-89.5 over Cambridge.

Sugar River sophomore Noelle Marie won the 3,200 with a time of 11.29.04 and Bri Roska was fourth (12:37.29).

Junior Logan Fahey took third place in the 200 (27.89) and sophomore Krista Diaz was third in the 100 hurdles (16.72).

The Raiders' 800-relay team finished third place (1:51.23) and the 3,200 relay took third (10:21.64).
