SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk girls basketball team will tip off the season Friday, Nov. 22 with a Meet the Warrior Night pep rally event that includes a fundraising dinner, a chance for children to learn basketball skills from players, raffles, competition and a scrimmage.
The Black Hawk girls team will host a spaghetti dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22. Pizza Hut will cater in spaghetti and bread, and the team will provide desserts and beverages. The cost of the meal for adults is $6 and a children's meal for 10-years-olds and younger is $4. Advance tickets can be purchased from players or their parents and tickets are also available at the door. All proceeds will go to the girls basketball program.
The in-gym portion of the event starts at 7 p.m. Youngsters are encouraged to attend because interaction with players is part of the event. There will be several basketball youth activities. Children don't have to attend the dinner to participate in the youth basketball activities. After the youth activities, the team will sponsor some player demonstrations, have a scrimmage and have a yearly raffle.
Some of the raffled items include T-shirts for the upcoming season, signed basketballs from this year's varsity and junior varsity teams and the opportunity for students in pre-K through sixth-grade to be involved in home games as "Little Warriors."
