POTOSI - Maddie Hawes and Abby Kaiser combined to score 47 points to help the Potosi girls basketball team cruise to a 78-47 win over Argyle Tuesday night.

Hawes scored a game-high 26 points, and Kaiser added 21 points.

Argyle (1-5, 0-1 Six Rivers East) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead. The Chieftains used a diamond press and then a three-quarter-court 1-2-2 press to stifle the Orioles.

"They upped the pressure on us, and we didn't handle it very well," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said. "It gave us fits. We have a young and inexperienced team. We have to work on being able to handle the pressure."

Argyle junior Kayla-Butler Paulson scored a team-high 14 points, including two 3-pointers.

The Orioles shot 74 percent from the free-throw line (20 of 27).

BLANCHARDVILLE - Belleville (2-1) turned in a suffocating defensive performance, limiting the Vikings (1-3) to just five points in the first half en route to a dominating win.

In other action, Platteville beat Darlington 66-51 in a nonconference game.
