SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk played one of the ugliest games of the season, and yet held a four-point lead in the closing seconds against defending Six Rivers Conference champion Potosi.

The Warriors had seven turnovers total to Potosi's two, yet a 24-yard touchdown pass from Merik Meythaler to Hayden Schliem put Black Hawk up 13-9 with just 31 seconds left.

But the Chieftains marched down the field, playing pitch and catch and getting out of bounds to stop the clock. Black Hawk was also tagged with a 12-men-on-the-field penalty, and Potosi scored the game-winning touchdown as time expired on a jump ball in the back corner of the end zone.

"We had no business winning that game," Warriors coach Cory Milz said of the 15-13 loss. "We could not run the ball and we turned it over seven times. I am very disappointed."

The first half ended scoreless, and Potosi scored first in the third quarter. Meythaler and Schliem hooked up for a 24-yard score to tie it at 6. Potosi added a field goal with 8:19 left in regulation to put Black Hawk behind some more.

The Chieftains amassed 209 rushing yards and 126 passing yards against the Warriors, which countered with 136 rushing yards and 191 yards through the air, with four interceptions.

Black Hawk (1-1) travels to River Ridge next week.

New Glarus-Monticello 20, Edgerton 13

NEW GLARUS - Spencer Jones had two touchdowns and Chris Pickett caught a 44-yard heave for the Glarner Knights, which scored with 48 seconds left to knock off the Crimson Tide in a non-conference game.

Jones, who ran for 82 yards on 11 carries, scored from 17 yards out to put his team ahead for good.

NGM had 264 rushing yards, including 71 from quarterback Lukas Kolasch, and added 59 more yards through the air. Edgerton had just 94 yards rushing but through for 164 yards.

The Knights led early thanks to a 27-yard scamper by Jones, but Lucas and Collin Gregory connected for a TD pass to take a 7-6 lead. Pickett then scored from 44-yards out off a pass from Gabe Noyce, but the Tiders took a 13-12 lead when the Gregorys hooked up on a 3-yard dump pass.

NGM (2-0) travels to Lakeside Lutheran next Friday.

Pecatonica-Argyle 7, Cassville 6

BLANCHARDVILLE - Dillon Conwell's 10 yard touchdown catch from Jon Hendrickson in the middle of the second quarter was enough to fend off Cassville, which failed on a two-point conversion with 5:11 left in regulation.

The Comets gained more first downs (11-9) and total yards (280-203) than the Vikings, but the turnover margin (3-1, in favor of Pec-Argyle) proved to be the difference.

Hendrickson finished the game 7 of 16 for 58 yards and Alec Treuthardt had nine carries for a team-high 58 yards rushing.

The Vikings (1-1) face an even bigger task next week when they travel to Shullsburg.

In other area action, Belleville-Albany lost to Orfordville Parkview 33-0.
