MONTICELLO - The Monticello softball team strung together seven singles to score six runs in the fourth inning en route to an 8-3 victory against Shullsburg-Benton Tuesday.

Senior Karlie Klossner pitched six innings and gave up three runs, walked none, and struck out 10. Sophomore Claire Bruns pitched a scoreless seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts against Shullsburg-Benton (4-14).

"In the sixth inning, they just hit the heck out of the ball," said Monticello coach Duane Garrison.

Klossner's pitching performance and the Ponies' defense also caught the eye of Garrison.

"She (Klossner) pitched well and we fielded well. Our defense has been very consistent," he said.

Junior Jordyn Kubly and sophomore Claire Geitzel each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Ponies (15-4, 8-2 Six Rivers East).

Monticello is a No. 2 seed in the Division 4 regional and will host No. 7 seed Faith Christian in a regional quarterfinal Thursday.
