Ponies tip Cards in thriller, 56-55

BRODHEAD - Despite the chilly conditions on Friday night, the Monticello boys basketball team made the trip to Brodhead in what turned out to be a blazing back-and-forth game that ended with the Ponies coming away with a one-point victory, 56-55.

Monticello started the game with a 18-point first quarter, but the host Cardinals were able to hold the Ponies to only two points in the second quarter to pull ahead with a 26-20 halftime lead.

After both teams scored 11 points in the third, Monticello was able to mount their comeback and seal the victory with a 25-point outburst in the final quarter.

Logan Crooks came up big for the Ponies, scoring 15 of his team-leading 17 points in the fourth. Lucas Marty and Ben May added 16 and 13 points respectively.

Brodhead was led by Josiah DeLorme, who scored a game-high 18 points. Ned Slocum contributed 15 points for the Cardinals, who host Argyle on Monday, Jan. 6.



Shullsburg 38, Albany 33

SHULLSBURG - Fourth quarter woes doomed the Albany boys basketball team on Friday night, as the team only managed to score three points in the closing quarter in giving up a five-point lead to host Shullsburg and losing by a final of 38-33.

The Comets maintained the lead throughout all of the game's first three quarters, but were unable to hold on as they were outscored by 10 points in the fourth.

Isaiah Shell had a game-high 15 points, while Mitchell Kauk scored 11 points for Albany.
