MONTICELLO - The Ponies took both games of a doubleheader against Cassville on Saturday.

Monticello won the first game 14-4 and the second 15-0, both lasting just five innings.

In the first game, Tanya Smith was 4 for 4 to lead the offensive attack. Alyssa Zimmerman, Jade Green and Maggie Edge each had two hits for the Ponies.

"That's the bottom four of our lineup," said Monticello coach Duane Garrison, whose team pounded out 15 hits. "We hit well all day. We are really balanced 1 through 9."

Claire Bruns took the win on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings.

"It was her first start," Garrison said of the freshman. "She got into a little bit of trouble in the fifth inning, but other than that She did very well."

Monticello used a seven-run fourth inning to go up on Cassville, which scored all four of its runs in the top of the fifth. The Ponies then scored another seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

In the second game, Taylor Pfeuti went 4 for 5. Marissa Berg and Green each had two hits.

Karlie Klossner got the win on the hill, lasting all five innings and allowing just three hits and a walk. Monticello had 13 hits in Game 2.

ORANGEVILLE - In the Panthers' second game at the weekend tournament in Orangeville, Ill., Juda went down thanks to five errors.

Tabitha Davis took the loss on the hill, allowing five runs in three innings before being replaced by Ramos, the staff ace. Miranda Trotter was 2 for 4 at the plate.

ORANGEVILLE - Gloves were apparently not a necessity as the Panthers committed 13 errors en route to the tight loss in their third and final game at the Orangeville Tournament.

"We used a lot of subs, but that's no excuse," Juda coach Bill Davis said. "There was not a lot of defense at all."

Ramos finished with 4 RBIs and a triple at the plate. On the mound, Ramos had 10 strikeout in five innings.

In other area action, River Ridge defeated Pecatonica 11-4.
