BELMONT - Monticello picked up a non-conference win Monday on the road, with a score of 11-4 over Belmont.

Corey McGowan went the distance on the hill for the Ponies, allowing seven hits and two walks, while striking out 10.

"Corey was in control most of the game," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said.

Monticello took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Braves tied it up in the bottom of the second. A 3-run third again put the Ponies on top, and Monticello's offense outscored Belmont 5-0 in the final four innings.

"We got to them early and kept putting pressure on them," Pinnow said.

Tyler Ritschard was 4 for 4 with a walk for Monticello. Teammate Chris Voegeli was 2 for 4 and Austin Steffen had a double.

Mineral Point 8, Argyle 0

ARGYLE - Walks and errors cost the Orioles a chance at playing a great game against one of the area's most talented and well-respected teams.

"We were putting guys on with walks or errors, then they would just get the big hit," Argyle coach Travis Erickson said.

Mineral Point plated five runs in the second inning and three in the third - with one hit (a triple) to show for it. In the meantime, 11 walks and five errors led to an unending feeling of misery for the Orioles.

"We had no trouble at all in the game except for those two innings," Erickson said.

Both teams finished with four hits, and the Orioles used five different pitchers.
