MONTICELLO - A day after losing a close game to conference rival Barneveld, the Monticello boys basketball team returned to their winning ways Saturday afternoon with a 49-35 victory over Shullsburg.
The Ponies grabbed an 11-8 lead after the first quarter and expanded their lead to nine at halftime. Shullsburg won the third quarter, but the Ponies responded with a strong fourth to close out the game.
Ben May led Monticello with 16 points. Lucas Marty was another top contributor for the Ponies, scoring 13 points. Connor Crotty led Shullsburg with 12.
Monticello improved to 8-1 with the victory. The Ponies return to action on Thursday when they will host Six Rivers East conference foe Argyle.
