MINERAL POINT - Seven Ponies got in on the scoring action Saturday as Monticello, ranked No. 9 in the state in Division 4 according to the WisSports.net Coaches Poll, upended Mineral Point, 42-31.
Monticello held a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and 22-13 at halftime. An 11-6 third quarter run by the Pointers kept the game close, but Monticello outscored Mineral Point 14-7 in the fourth to seal the win.
Tyler Meier had 14 pints to lead Monticello. Jacob Marty added eight.
The Ponies (10-2) committed just 10 fouls in the game compared to 19 for the Pointers (2-11).
Darlington 65, Barneveld 59
DARLINGTON - A late jolt Saturday afternoon helped the Redbirds remain unbeaten in non-conference play.
With Barneveld within a point to start the fourth quarter, 43-42, Darlington leaned on its veterans to carry the team in the final period.
A 22-17 run in the frame sealed the win.
Alex Erickson scored 14 points to lead the Redbirds. Tyler Shager and Tanner Havens each had 10 points and Derek Larson had seven. Logan Johnson led the Eagles with 20 points.
