Ponies pound out big win

MONTICELLO - Junior Jessie Garrison and the Monticello High School softball team had breakout performances at the plate and rolled to an 18-8 win over Pecatonica in six innings on Tuesday.

Garrison went 5-for-5 with three RBI to power the Ponies to their first win of the season. Monticello (1-2, 1-1 Six Rivers East) pounded out 16 hits off Pecatonica pitcher Ninah McKeon. The Ponies put the game away with a five-run fifth and a six-run sixth.

Monticello coach Duane Garrison switched his lineup around and six freshmen for the Ponies went a combined 10-for-21.

"I reward girls who are hitting the ball," Garrison said. "If you have a hot player, you want them to get as many at-bats as possible. With six freshmen you never know what you will get. This was a breakout game for the girls. The six freshmen came through tonight."

Monticello freshman Hannah Zanow went 2-for-2. Freshman teammate Jaycey Rufer went 3-for-4 with three RBI and freshman Lexi Graber was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Fellow freshman Lindsey Pence went 2-for-3.

Pecatonica senior Kelsey Chrostowski went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Vikings. Junior teammate Carly Rindy was 2-for-4.

Jessie Garrison pitched a complete game to get the win for the Ponies. She gave up four earned runs on nine hits. She struck out four and walked six.

McKeon for the Vikings pitched a complete game and gave up 12 earned runs on 16 hits. She struck out seven and walked seven.



Lake Country Lutheran 8, Juda-Albany 6

HARTLAND - Juda-Albany senior Jessica Crull did everything in her power to help the Panthers rally but errors haunted them in a loss to Lake Country Lutheran.

Crull went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Lake Country Lutheran jumped out to an 8-2 lead going into the sixth inning. Juda-Albany (1-2) committed seven errors.

"They are a very good team," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We played our worst game defensively probably in three years. It was just not a good defensive performance on our part."

The Panthers tried to rally in the sixth when Piper Bailey had a pinch-hit two-run single to cut Lake Country Lutheran's lead to 8-4.

In the seventh, Juda-Albany junior Sara Jordan doubled. Sophomore teammate Hailey Kammerer singled and junior Alexis Goecks singled. Crull then delivered a two-run single before Lake Country Lutheran got out of the jam.

Juda-Albany senior Danielle Dieckhoff went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Panthers.



Marshall 11, New Glarus 0

MARSHALL - Taylor Pache limited New Glarus to just four hits and she struck out eight to lead Marshall over the Glarner Knights in six innings.

Marshall was sparked by Samira Arvin and Dany Gumz who combined for eight hits and six RBI. Gumz went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Arvin was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

New Glarus senior Jessica Van Dusen had a double. The Knights got hits from Lydia Sprecher, Madison Perkins and Noelle Austin.

New Glarus sophomore pitcher Riley Parker pitched five innings and gave up five earned runs on nine hits. She struck out two and walked one. Van Dusen pitched one inning and gave up two runs on three hits.



Beloit Turner 11, Brodhead 0

BRODHEAD - Beloit Turner, a state qualifier last year, took advantage of some fielding miscues by Brodhead (0-3) and rolled over the Cardinals.

Brodhead sophomore Azzi Steiner pitched a complete game and struck out seven. Brodhead was plagued by nine errors. The Trojans scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

Beloit Turner's Kailyn Packard, McKenna Fobes and Carson Nitz each had two hits to lead the Trojans.

Brodhead will play at Beloit Turner on Friday.
