MONTICELLO - The Monticello softball team won its second straight game knocking off Edgerton 6-4 Monday.
Monticello senior Courtney Leuzinger pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up four runs on six hits. She struck out six and walked seven.
Monticello senior Jordan Garrison went 3-for-4 and senior Samantha DeVoe was 2-for-3. Leuzinger went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. Leuzinger helped her own cause by hitting a two-run homer in the third inning to key the Ponies' comeback.
"She's probably one of the best power hitters," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said.
The Ponies scored three runs in the fifth to win the game. With the win, Monticello improves to 2-1.
"We still have to cut down on our walks and errors," Garrison said.
Monticello will open up conference play today at Argyle. The Ponies beat the Orioles twice in the regular season last year. Argyle then defeated Monticello in a regional final last season.
"It's always a big one," Garrison said of playing Argyle.

RIVERDALE - Walks came back to haunt Darlington in a 13-9 loss to Riverdale Monday.
Three Redbird pitchers combined walked seven and hit three. Riverdale took control of the game with a 10-run fourth inning.
"That's 10 free bases," Darlington coach Karen Bennett said. "In the fourth inning all of the wheels came off our pitching. We are definitely struggling with pitching."
Darlington's Chloe Hinderman went 2-for-2 and teammate Mariah Wiegel went 3-for-4. Taylor Cox was 2-for-4 with a home run for the Redbirds.
The Redbirds battled back and scored five runs in the seventh.
"Our infield players looked good," Bennett said. "We also need some work in the outfield. We definitely won every inning except the fourth. There were a lot of positives for our second game."
