Platteville stuns Brewers

MONROE - The Monroe Brewers missed a golden opportunity to move into second place following a 3-2 loss to Platteville in Home Talent League action Sunday.

Platteville's Derek Lewan led off the ninth inning with a double. David Keller came through with a clutch two-out RBI single up the middle to score Lewan.

Monroe's loss coupled with Wiota dropping two games to New Glarus and Verona, opened the door for the Brewers to seize second place in the Home Talent League's Western Section.

"We kind of shot ourselves today," Monroe co-player manager Lon Scheuerell said. "We for sure had a chance at second place. We didn't take advantage of that situation."

The Brewers rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Scott White was hit by a pitch in the eighth. Mitch Marty, who went 3-for-4 to lead the Brewers, singled. Justin Hahn then hit an RBI double. Mike Cleary knocked in the game-tying run on a fielder's choice.

Monroe's Cody Boals pitched seven innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits. He had five strikeouts. However, Boals didn't factor in the decision. Ben Korth pitched two innings and was charged with the loss. He gave up one run on two hits.

Monroe hosts Orfordville in a Night League game Thursday and is at Argyle Tuesday, July 27 for a Sunday league game.
