NEW GLARUS - Platteville won Wednesday's New Glarus Invite by just one stroke over Edgerton, but for Argyle-Pecatonica, the meet was more about figuring out the course destined for next week's conference championship.

"New Glarus seems to be a paradox for some of my kids," Argyle-Pecatonica coach Chris Holcomb said about Edelweiss Chalet and Country Club. "Sometimes they play well, and other times not."

Holcomb's squad took fifth out of eight teams with a score of 370. Only Mason Holcomb (79) finished with a score under 90, which was good enough to finish tied for third individually.

"Today was a fun day against teams you don't play against normally," Chris Holcomb said. "Not that we didn't try, but we really wanted to get some practice in on this course. We have the (SWAL) conference championship there next Tuesday, and if we can make it through regionals to sectionals, it's also there."

Noah Krahenbuhl shot a 94 for Argyle-Pecatonica, while Jeff Saether had a 97. Both Dylan Stietz and Ben Figi carded a 100, but only one score was kept for the team final.

Edgerton's Joe Forsting was the medalist after shooting a 76. Teammate Kyle Wille was second with a 78. Beaver Dam came in third as a team with a 342, two strokes behind champion Platteville. New Glarus was fourth (346), Dodgeville sixth (412), Belleville-Monticello seventh (419) and Brodhead eighth (423).

Matt Hach led New Glarus with an 81. Cole Runde shot an 85 on the home course, while Jacob Krantz (89) and Jared Martinson (91) also carded team scores.

Parker Johnson of Brodhead had an 89, with teammate Dayton Oliver the only other player to card a score in double digits.

Belleville-Monticello, in its first year as a program, was led by Peter Gustafson, who shot a 93.

Scattered afternoon storms threatened the meet altogether. Two storm cells with high winds, hail and lightning looked to be barreling toward New Glarus, but one dissipated to the west while the other stayed just a few miles to the south, hitting Monticello. Play in New Glarus continued uninterrupted.

"The wind picked up and it got real dark," Chris Holcomb said. "We were back on hole 15, which is probably the furthest from the clubhouse, but we didn't have to head back. We ended up getting 18 in."

New Glarus travels to Monroe on Friday for a nonconference duel. Argyle-Pecatonica has a SWAL makeup Friday, a duel at Abundant Life on Monday, a conference Wednesday and then the team hosts Belleville-Monticello Thursday. Brodhead hosts a Rock Valley mini meet today at 3:30 p.m.
