ALBANY - The Comets edged Monticello in a pitcher's duel on Monday, 1-0.
Cody Schulz struck out 10 batters in seven innings for Albany, allowing four hits in that span. Corey McGowan had seven strikeouts, a walk and four hits in six innings for the Ponies.
"This is the best I've ever seen McGowan throw, and this was probably Schulz' best night, too," Albany coach Brian Dahl said. "Both guys did a great job. They pitched well enough to win."
Albany's lone run crossed the plate in the bottom of the third inning. Austin Ross led off the inning with a single and Johnny Kallgren hit a sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Schulz then walked and Boomer Detra brought Ross in with an RBI single to the outfield.
Tyler Ritschard and Austin Steffen each finished 2 for 3 for Monticello.
"It's a good game every time we play against Monticello," Dahl said.
The Ponies swept the Comets (5-11, 4-9 Six Rivers East) in two close games earlier in the month in a doubleheader in Monticello.
