Peewees split weekend games

MONROE - On Saturday, the Monroe Avalanche Peewee hockey team hosted the Janesville J-Hawks and won a hard-fought battle, 5-4.

Travis Edmunds scored the Avalanche's first goal 10 seconds into the game. Janesville scored a goal late in the first period to tie the game.

Payton Stauffacher scored the Avalanche's next two goals to give Monroe a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Edmunds scored the Avalanche's next two goals, and the Avalanche had to withstand a flurry of J-Hawk shots to secure the victory.

Roman Bauer, Riley Jones and Jared Cline each recorded an assist during the game. Jayden Johnson stopped 18 shots in goal for the Avalanche to preserve the victory.

On Sunday, Feb. 24, the PeeWee team traveled to Dodgeville and came out on top with a 9-4 victory. In the game, all seven Avalanche skaters scored goals. Cline opened the game with the Avalanche's first goal midway through the first period. Riley Jones and Joe Wyss would score the next two goals for the Avalanche as they held a three-goal lead after the first period.

Charlie Harris scored the Avalanche's only goal in the second period, and Dodgeville fought back to tied the game 4-4.

The Avalanche put the game out of reach in the third period as Cammi Ganshert and Connor Nafzger each scored a goal. Cline scored his second goal of the game and Edmunds scored twice. Johnson stopped 12 shots to secure the victory. Edmunds had three assists, while Nafzger and Jones each had one.



Mite White

The Mite White played their last scheduled games in Verona on Sunday and won the first game against Madison Polar Caps and tied with McFarland and Southwest.

Scoring for the Avalanche in the first game were Blaze Janecke (8) and Seth Brandt. Jack Leverton had 13 saves. In the game against McFarland Blaze Janecke lit the lamp for two and Wyatt Janecke had one. Jack Leverton had 19 saves. Blaze Janecke scored the game-tying goal in the Southwest game. Jack Leverton had eight saves.



Mite Blue

On Sunday, the Avalanche Mite Blue team hosted Southwest and Janesville for their last regular games of the season. It was a tough day for the Avalanche losing 1-0 to Southwest and 5-1 to Janesville. Lily Brewer scored the lone Avalanche goal. Xander Obert had 19 saves in the Southwest game and 23 saves in the Janesville game.

On Sunday, Feb. 17 the Avalanche Mite Blue team hosted Middleton (lost 7-0), Southwest and Waunakee. The Avalanche tied Southwest 2-2. It was a tough matchup against the Waunakee Wildcats, but the Avalanche fell 4-3.

All three girls on the team scored goals: Lily Brewer, Marlies Brandli and Karlee Boll.
