PeeWee A takes third

MENOMONIE - The Avalanche PeeWee A team took third place at a tournament in Menomonie Jan. 11-12 by defeating Menomonie 9-6.

Travis Edmunds scored an unassisted goal in the first period to open the game for the Avalanche. Luke Kuberski scored the second goal on a pass from Tessa Janecke, but Menomonie scored a goal seconds later. Then Tessa Janecke scored a goal of her own on a pass from Joe Wyss.

Edmunds scored another unassisted goal followed by another goal from Tessa Janecke on an assist by Anika Einbeck. Menomonie scored a goal at the end of the first period to make the score 5-2.

Menomonie came out strong in the second period scoring three unanswered goals to tie the game 5-5. In the third period, Charlie Harris scored a goal for the Avalanche on an assist by Cade Janecke and Edmunds. Menomonie responded with a goal to tie the game but 20 seconds later Wyss scored a goal on an assist by Tessa Janecke to make the score 7-6. The last seven minutes were a real nail-bitter as both teams fought hard to control the puck. Edmunds was able to find Tessa Janecke open in front of the net and she was able to fire a shot past the goalie to score with 1:36 left in the game to put the Avalanche up by two.

Menomonie pulled their goalie to add an extra attacker to try to tie the game. The Avalanche met the challenge as Cade Janecke was able to knock the puck away and pass it to Edmunds who shot it the length of the ice into the Menomonie empty net for the win.

Goalie Jayden Johnson had 41 saves for the Avalanche. Both Tessa Janecke and Travis Edmunds earned hat tricks.

The Avalanche lost their first game to Rice Lake 7-1. Edmunds scored the only goal for the Avalanche on an assist by Tessa Janecke.

Johnson had 24 saves in the net. The Avalanche lost their second game to River Falls 11-3. Scoring for the Avalanche were Cade Janecke, Tessa Janecke and Luke Kuberski. Earning assists were Anika Einbeck and Harris. Johnson had 32 saves in the net.



Squirt A

On a snowy night, the Avalanche Squirt A team traveled to Wisconsin Dells to take on Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells Squirt A on Friday, Jan. 10. The Avalanche dominated the game. Tessa Janecke earned a hat trick while Hayden Roth added one goal. Roth and Lilah Bauer recorded assists in the game. The Avalanche outshot Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells 44-4 and won 4-1.

The Squirt A and U14 Girls teams are hosting home tournaments Jan. 18-19 at SLICE.

Mite White

The White Mite team headed to the Ice Pond in Waunakee Sunday, Jan. 12. In their first half ice match, the Mites took on the Polar Caps from Madison.

Seth Brandt earned his first hat trick of season with two unassisted goals and one assisted by Breleigh Stuart. Karlee Boll lit the lamp for one goal on an assist by Wyatt Janecke. Janecke also scored on a long shot from the blue line, unassisted. The Avalanche goals weren't enough to beat the Polar Caps as they lost 6-5.

Jaryn Fonseca recorded seven saves as goalie. In their second game, the Avalanche faced a tough Janesville team. Brandt again started the scoring and added another late in the game, both goals unassisted. Janesville responded with three goals of their own to beat the Avalanche. Fonseca recorded six saves.

In their final game of the day, the Mites suffered a tough loss against the Waunakee Wildcats, losing 10-2. The Avalanche goals were scored by Brandt and Ethan Rosenstiel with both coming off assists by Gavin Roth. The Mites take the ice again Sunday in Verona at 1:30 p.m.



U10 Girls

On Sunday, Jan. 12 the Avalanche U10 Girls traveled to Waunakee to play the DC Diamonds and lost 6-1.

The first period saw back and forth action with only one goal scored by Marlies Brandli for the Avalanche. The DC Diamonds poured on the heat in the second period scoring four unanswered goals.

Play was dominated in the third period by aggressive puck action at both nets but the DC Diamonds were the only scorers in the period lighting the lamp two more times.
