MONROE - Seeded first heading into the playoff games and having a first-round bye, the Avalanche PeeWee A team played Sauk Prairie Saturday. The Avalanche dominated the entire game winning 8-1.
Each team scored one goal in the first period with an Avalanche goal from Cade Janecke on an assist by Hayden Roth.
The Avalanche added two more in the second period with goals from Cade Janecke and a goal from the blue line from Payton Stauffacher on a pass from Cade Janecke. The Avalanche finished the game with four more goals from Ryan Molitor, Tessa Janecke (assisted by Stauffacher), Hayden Roth and Cade Janecke (assisted by Ryan Molitor and Stauffacher). The Avalanche outshot Sauk Prairie 38-10.
In the final game to declare the Region 4 champions, the Avalanche took on Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells (RWD). RWD quickly got on the scoreboard in the first period. The Avalanche found their groove in the second period scoring two goals from Hayden Roth (assisted by Tessa Janecke and Payton Stauffacher) and Cade Janecke (assisted by Alyssa Knauf). RWD added one of their own at the end of the second period. The score remained 2-2 until 59 seconds were left in the game when Payton Stauffacher scored a goal on an assist by Ryan Molitor.
Goalie Heath Bear recorded 16 saves. The 3-2 win over RWD secured the Avalanche's place as the Region 4 representative for the state tournament to be held in Waupaca March 21-22. The PeeWee A record stands at 23-2-1.
PeeWee B
As the No. 1 seed, the Monroe Avalanche PeeWee B team entered playoff weekend with a first-round bye, then on Sunday made an early morning trip to Sun Prairie to defend their WAHA Region 4 championship. The title game brought a familiar opponent in the Stoughton Vikings, as the Avalanche had dropped a 2-1 game to the Vikings just one week earlier.
The Monroe squad struck first when Blaze Janecke buried a rebound off a first period shot from defenseman Broc Kuberski. Leading 1-0 halfway into the second period, Jared Dillon scored a goal on an assist by Rebekah Rath to give the Avalanche a two-goal cushion. For eight minutes in the third period the game remained at a tenuous 2-1 Avalanche lead, until team captain Luke Kuberski scored an unassisted goal with 1:59 on the clock. Kuberski would then seal the victory 1:30 later with an empty-net goal fired from center ice.
Goaltender Aiden Runkle recorded 13 saves. The Avalanche will be making their run at a state title March 21-22 in Sheboygan.
U14 Girls
The Avalanche U14 girls team first played the DC Diamonds U14B team in the playoffs on Friday. The Avalanche girls dominated the entire game winning 6-1.
Anika Einbeck had a hat trick while Lilah Bauer, Alyssa Knauf and Tessa Janecke each lit the lamp for one goal. Tessa Janecke earned a playmaker. Also earning assists were Einbeck, Madeline Williams, Cammi Ganshert and Lilah Bauer (two). The Avalanche outshot the DC Diamonds 59-5.
In the second round, the Avalanche U14 girls were defeated by the DC Diamonds U14A team 5-1, although the Avalanche outshot the DC Diamonds 29-21. Tessa Janecke scored the lone Avalanche goal on an assist by Einbeck.
