Pee Wee A takes 6th at state

MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche Pee Wee A team traveled to Marshfield last weekend after earning a wild card spot in the state tournament and took sixth place.

Their first game was early Saturday against Beaver Dam. The defense played tough as penalties would plague the Avalanche and kept them short on the ice. They fell 5-1 with the lone goal coming from Evan Brendemuehl. Goalie Miles Gordon had 27 saves. 

In the second game, the Avalanche skated to a 7-2 win over Waupaca. Scoring first for the Avalanche was Wyatt Janecke with an assist from Cole Buholzer. In the second period, goals were scored by Cash Anderson, unassisted, and Cameron Newcomer, assisted by Seth Brandt. 

Not slowing down in the third period, the Avalanche scored four more goals. Anderson scored a goal on an assist by Brendemuehl. Brandt scored two goals with an assist by Carson Buholzer and one unassisted. Janecke scored the last goal.

Gordon recorded nine saves in the game. The win put the Avalanche into the consolation game Sunday, which they lost to Rhinelander 8-6. The first 10 minutes of the first period were dominated by good defense and saves. Rhinelander would score the first two goals and then the Avalanche finally answered with a goal by Anderson Another one was then put in by Brendemuehl unassisted. Going into the second period, the Avalanche were down 5-2.

Anderson scored a goal on an assist by Brendemuehl and Brandt scored a goal on an assist by Janecke to cut the deficit to 5-4. Going into the third period, the Avalanche made it a game and kept it close with goals by Dylan Lewis assisted by Brendemuehl and another goal by Anderson for a hat trick with an assist by Cole Buholzer.

With the score 7-6 with a couple minutes left to play, the Avalanche pulled the goalie to try and tie the game up, but unfortunately lost a close game. This placed the Avalanche Pee Wee A in sixth place for the state tournament.
