Pecatonica sweeps Braves to clinch title

BELMONT - The Pecatonica baseball team swept a doubleheader from Belmont on Friday and clinched the Six Rivers East Conference title for the third straight year.

Unbeaten Pecatonica rolled to a 15-1 win over Belmont in the first game, and the Vikings topped the Braves 4-0 in the second.

"They put in a lot of work in the summer," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said of his players. "It feels good to win it three years in a row. They were rewarded for their hard work."

Pecatonica improves to 17-0 overall and 11-0 in the Six Rivers East.

Pecatonica senior Cory Linder went 2-for-2 with a home run and one RBI. Sophomore Colton Schraepfer went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and senior Logan Green was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. Pecatonica senior Dakota Conwell hit a two-run home run in a three-run third to help the Vikings take a 6-0 lead.

Conwell pitched three innings to get the win. He gave up one run on two hits, struck out two, walked two and hit two. Senior A.J. Hendrickson pitched two shutout innings in relief. He struck out two and walked one.

In the second game, Pecatonica senior Jake Dearth tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout. Dearth struck out five and walked one.

Hendrickson went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
