MONTICELLO - After winning the first two sets, Monticello coach Scott Smice warned his team the match against Pecatonica was far from over.
"I told the kids we haven't won anything yet," Smice said. "You have to win three games out of five. We just can't get over that hump."
Pecatonica (6-4 Six Rivers East) stormed back to win three straight games to knock off the Ponies 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-13.
The Vikings jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the final game. Monticello junior Jessie Garrison had two straight aces as the Ponies rallied to tie the game at 13. Pecatonica senior Britt Miller answered powering a kill down the line and the Vikings pulled out a thriller.
Garrison racked up 26 assists and notched six aces. Junior teammate Megan Lehr had a team-best 11 kills, while junior Brittany Disch had seven kills and posted three blocks. Junior teammate Bri Graber added seven kills and Lehr also posted six aces.
With the loss, Monticello drops to 4-12, 2-8 Six Rivers East.
Juda 3, Albany 0
JUDA - Junior Sara Jordan had eight kills to lead Juda to a sweep of Albany Tuesday.
The Panthers defeated the Comets 25-12, 25-14, 25-19. Juda sophomore Hailey Kammerer had seven kills and junior Alexis Goecks had a team-high eight digs. Sophomore teammate MacKenzie Byrne dished out nine assists and notched four aces. Senior Megan Powers also chipped in nine assists.
"We are playing games that mean something now," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "We are hitting and covering better. Albany is much improved and are getting better."
Juda (12-5, 6-3 Six Rivers East) will have a say in who wins the conference championship. The Panthers will play the top three teams in the conference over the next week with matches at Barneveld Thursday before hosting Argyle and Black Hawk next week.
"We are playing with the top half of the conference and that was our goal at the start of the season," Anderson said.
Albany's Taylor Seffrood had a team-high five assists and three aces. Libby Beck led the Comets with five kills.
Darlington 3, Fennimore 2
DARLINGTON - Sisters Taryn Rankin and Kennedy Rankin both had big performances to lead Darlington to a five-game win over Fennimore.
Junior Taryn Rankin had a team-high 12 kills, 12 digs and three aces to lead the Redbirds to a 20-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20, 15-10 win over the Eagles. Sophomore Kennedy Rankin had 11 kills and three blocks.
"We pulled together in Game 5," Darlington coach Jen Schwartz said. "We came out flat in the first four games. We have some young kids playing. It's a learning curve for us now."
Darlington (10-5, 5-4 SWAL) jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the final game and were able to hang on. Darlington's Gabby Steiner dished out 16 assists.
Marshall 3, New Glarus 1
MARSHALL - The New Glarus volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Marshall on the road Tuesday.
New Glarus junior Devon Boll had a team-high 10 kills in Marshall's 25-17, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17 win over the Glarner Knights. Senior teammate Maddie Macht posted seven kills, notched five aces and had nine digs. New Glarus senior Vanessa Narveson had a team-best 17 digs and senior Alex Nealis racked up 18 assists. Senior teammate Haley Reeson chipped in two blocks.
With the loss, New Glarus drops to 11-14, 3-5 Capitol South.
In other action, Argyle outlasted Black Hawk in five sets 21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 10-25, 15-12.
Argyle sophomore Ashley Bruehlman had a team-high 16 kills, five aces and four blocks. Argyle junior Morgan Godfrey also posted 16 kills. Junior teammate Kayla Butler-Paulson racked up 46 assists and Dorissa DeNure had 22 digs.
