Pecatonica stays unbeaten by pounding Warriors

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team stayed unbeaten, slugging its way to a 19-3 five-inning win over Black Hawk Tuesday.

Pecatonica senior Drew Schliem went 3-for-4 with two RBI and junior Gavin Burdick was 3-for-4 with one RBI to lead a 13-hit Vikings' attack. Sophomore teammate A.J. Hendrickson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI and sophomore Dakota Conwell was 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI. With the win, Pecatonica improves to 10-0, 8-0 Six Rivers East.

"We hit the ball well up and down the lineup," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "We just took advantage of some situations we had."

Pecatonica junior Riley Gould pitched four innings to get the win. He gave up three runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked five. Conwell pitched one shutout inning in relief.

One day after committing eight errors in their first game in about one week, the Vikings had just one error Tuesday.

"We really improved defensively," Strommen said.



Darlington 3, Fennimore 2

DARLINGTON - Senior Cole McDonald hit a game-winning home run in the sixth inning to give Darlington a 3-2 win over Fennimore Tuesday.

Both McDonald and senior Ben Muhlstein each went 2-for-3 to lead Darlington to the victory. McDonald pitched a complete game to earn the win. He gave up one earned run on seven hits. McDonald struck out six and walked one.

With the win, Darlington (7-3, 6-1 SWAL) moves into a three-way tie atop the league with Fennimore and Riverdale.



Lake Mills 3, New Glarus 0

NEW GLARUS - Lake Mills' Jacob Anhalt pitched a complete game shutout to beat New Glarus 3-0 Tuesday.

New Glarus' Andrew Nimtz went 2-for-4 to lead the Glarner Knights. New Glarus junior Gavin Binger hit a triple and senior Koner French hit a double.

With the loss, New Glarus drops to 0-10, 0-5 Capitol South. French pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked two. New Glarus freshman Jared Carney pitched two innings and gave up one run on three hits. He struck out three.
