BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica baseball team rode the pitching of senior Lucas McKeon and Drew Schliem to beat Shullsburg-Benton in a suspended game 4-1 Saturday.
McKeon pitched four shutout innings to get the win. He struck out nine and walked three. Schliem pitched three innings in relief and limited Shullsburg-Benton to one run on three hits. He struck out three and walked one.
"Your hitting will not always be there," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "We have had some consistent pitching and if our defense gets better like it was over the weekend, it's an encouraging sign."
Pecatonica (12-4, 9-4 Six Rivers East) got some clutch hits too. With two outs in the fifth inning, Schliem reached on an error. He stole second and scored on sophomore Brooks Chandler's RBI single. Senior Tyler Hodgson followed with an RBI double to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth, Dalton James walked and Gavin Burdick reached on an error. Freshman A.J. Hendrickson then knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Hodgson went 2-for-4 with two doubles and Chandler was 2-for-4 with one double.
Pecatonica 8, Cassville 7

CASSVILLE - The Vikings swept a doubleheader from Cassville Friday. Pecatonica senior Chase Norton went 2-for-4 with a home run to lead the Vikings. Norton also picked up the win on the mound. He gave up two runs on two hits in five innings. Norton struck out six and walked five. Schliem also went 2-for-4.
The Vikings completed the sweep by pulling out a 2-1 win in the nightcap of the twinbill.
"We got solid pitching performances and timely hits in both games," Strommen said.
The Vikings jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first game and then had to survive a five-run seventh by the Comets.
"We hit the ball early in the game and got out to a solid lead," Strommen said. "It's a good win against a good hitting team."
McKeon pitched a complete game to get the win in the second game. He gave up one run on four hits. He struck out 11 and walked three.
Schliem hit a solo home run in the first to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. In the third, Chandler singled and Kyle Kleppe drove in the go-ahead run with a single to give the Vikings the win.

ORFORDVILLE - Orfordville Parkview swept a doubleheader from rival Brodhead-Juda Saturday defeating the Cardinals 2-1 and 5-0.
Brodhead-Juda's Daniel Skoumal pitched six innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked three.
Parkview limited the Cardinals to just two hits. Brennan Bescup had a double.
Brodhead-Juda senior Tyler Davis pitched a complete game. He gave up one earned run on nine hits. He struck out two and walked two.

NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights pounded out 17 hits in the second game of a doubleheader to earn a split against Belleville.
New Glarus broke the second game open with a seven-run third inning.
New Glarus' Koner French went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the Knights. Tyler Molencamp and Gavin Binger were each 3-for-5. John Chenoweth went 2-for-4 and Patrick Elzen was 2-for-5.
Kyle Larson pitched a complete game to get the win. He gave up just three earned runs on 14 hits. With the split, new Glarus improves to 1-11, 1-9 Capitol South.
