BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica lost to Shullsburg-Benton in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night 6-3.

Taylor Berg was charged with the loss, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on nine hits and a hit batter in five innings of work. Berg also struck out seven hitters. Tannar Johnson relieved Berg for two innings and held Shullsburg-Benton to just one hit while striking out four.

"Taylor pitched OK," said Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen. "He didn't walk anybody, but they hit the ball pretty well."

The Vikings also had three errors after committing none against Mineral Point last week.

"We didn't play as well defensively as we did last Thursday," Strommen said.

Pecatonica, which had just seven hits, trailed from the start. The Vikings found themselves behind 2-0 after the first inning and 4-2 after the third. Pecatonica made it 4-3 in the fourth, but Shullsburg-Benton added two more runs in the fifth to close it out.
