Pecatonica-Argyle surges to Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference title

HILLSBORO - The Pecatonica-Argyle wrestling team crowned three individual champions en route to winning the Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference tournament Saturday.

Pecatonica-Argyle captured the conference title 164.5-128 over Brookwood and New Lisbon, who tied for second. The Vikings had eight wrestlers finish in the top four of their respective weight classes. It's the first conference title for Pecatonica-Argyle in wrestling in 19 years.

"To me this was big for our program," Pecatonica-Argyle coach Mike Pittz said. "Last year we took four kids to the conference tournament, and this year we took 12. That was a big difference."

The conference champions for Pecatonica-Argyle are Noah Krahenbuhl at 113 pounds, Easton Schraepfer (152) and Lucas Gilbertson (220). The trio of conference champions for the Vikings each went 3-0.

"I had big hopes for those three," Pittz said. "We have 11 first-year wrestlers. They were a big part of this."

After a first-round bye, Krahenbuhl (25-9) pinned New Lisbon's Devon Lee in 33 seconds. In the title match, he beat Brookwood's Jadin Attha in a technical fall, 21-4 in 5 minutes, 58 seconds.

Schraepfer (24-10) pinned Hillsboro's Mac Verbsky in 50 seconds in his first match. He then pinned New Lisbon's Ashton Roach in 3:53. In the championship match, Schraepfer pinned Necedah's Lane Meltesen in 30 seconds.

Gilbertson (28-8) also breezed to the title after a first-round bye. He pinned Kickapoo-La Farge's Austin Underwood in 1:44 in a semifinal match. Gilbertson then pinned Brookwood's Dylan DeWitt in the finals in 5:17.

Pecatonica-Argyle's Dakota Doescher (21-9) finished second at 106, and Prestan Rosenstiel finished second at 195. Teammate Chevy Hughes (126) finished third, and Dalton Tuner (145) and Zander Brunker (160) each took fourth.



Sugar River takes third in Capitol

MARSHALL - The Sugar River wrestling team crowned two champions at the Capitol Conference tournament Saturday en route to a third-place finish as a team.

Sugar River's Joe Quaglia (26-9) at 106 and Robert Chenoweth (25-11 at 120) each won conference titles. The Raiders had seven wrestlers finish in the top three. Lodi won its 26th straight Capitol Conference championship, with nine individual champions in the 14 weight classes. Lodi racked up 327.5 points to run away with the team title ahead of runner-up Marshall (163) and Sugar River (151).

After two byes, Quaglia defeated Marshall's Kobe Grossman 8-3 in a semifinal match. In the title match, Quaglia pinned Poynette's Gwen Golueke in 3:55 seconds. Chenoweth also picked up two wins after two byes. He edged Lodi's Jacob Harland 3-2. In the championship match, Chenoweth beat Columbus' Sal Genco 5-0.

Sugar River senior Max Gerner (132), junior Jack Diederich (152) and junior Daniel Enloe (heavyweight) each went 3-1 to take second. Sugar River senior Trevor Enloe (138) and junior Justin Knoebl (145) both finished third. Gerner (26-10) pinned Waterloo's Juan Alonso in 4 minutes in a semifinal match. In a championship match, Lodi's Brandon Errthum defeated Gerner 9-2.

Diederich (22-15) defeated Waterloo's Ben Renforth 8-5, and he pinned Poynette's Justin Taylor in 3:43 in a semifinal match. Marshall's Dylan Horstmeyer knocked off Diederich in the title match 5-0. After two byes, Daniel Enloe (23-11) pinned Lakeside Lutheran's Carson Brumm in 40 seconds. In the title match, Lodi's Gabe Martin edged him 8-7.



Evansville-Albany wins Rock Valley

JEFFERSON - Evansville-Albany had four individual champions and won the Rock Valley Conference title Saturday.

The Blue Devils edged East Troy 238.5-231.5 for the team title. Brodhead-Juda (110.5) finished sixth in the conference tournament out of nine teams. The champions for Evansville-Albany were Austin Scofield (126), Ben Barmore (145), Nolan Kicmol (152) and Branden Lange (heavyweight).

Each of the Blue Devils' four champions went 3-0. Scofield (27-7) edged Beloit Turner's Jack Sagaitis 3-2 in the championship match. At 145, Barmore knocked off East Troy's John Veselka 11-3 in the title match. Kicmol (35-2) pinned Brodhead-Juda junior Jackson Hauri in the finals in 5:36. Lange (34-5) pinned East Troy's Jacob Mast in 2:49 for the title.

Evansville-Albany's Jared Miller (113), Adam Staver (132) and Tyler Aasen (170) each took second.

Brodhead-Juda had four wrestlers finish in the top three. Hauri (152), Kaleb Erb (160) and Trent Davis (220) each took second. Brian McCullough (145) took third. Hauri (25-2) pinned Big Foot-Williams Bay's Raul Rojas in 50 seconds in a quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, he rolled to a 14-2 win over Jefferson's Jose Rios. That set up his title match with Kicmol.

Erb (24-7) pinned Beloit Turner's Maguire Kurth in 29 seconds in his first match. He then knocked off Edgerton's Garrett Ison in a technical fall, 20-4 in 6 minutes. In the championship match, East Troy's Chase Coleman pinned Erb in 1:31.

Davis (220) pinned Jefferson's Chayce Rayner in 52 seconds in his first match. He then escaped with a 3-2 win over Edgerton's Reed Farrington in a semifinal match. East Troy's Chris Storandt defeated Davis 7-1 in the championship match.



WarBirds finishes sixth

MINERAL POINT - The Black Hawk-Darlington wrestling team finished sixth out of 13 teams in the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League-Southwest Wisconsin Conference Clash.

Fennimore scored 249 points to top Lancaster's 214 to win the conference tournament. Prairie du Chien took third (212), followed by Iowa-Grant Highland (196) and River Valley with 196. The WarBirds finished with 186 points.

Black Hawk-Darlington junior Kolbe Ubersox (132) won a conference title on a technical fall 16-1. Black Hawk-Darlington sophomore Cayden Milz (145) took third with a pin in a third-place match. At 152, Black Hawk-Darlington's Hunter Bredeson took third, and senior teammate Brody Milz (220) also took third.
