HOLLANDALE - Pecatonica won its own baseball tournament Saturday, shutting down Dodgeville, 18-3, and Mineral Point, 2-1.

In the first game, the Vikings used a 14-run second inning to drown the Dodgers' hopes. Taylor Berg and Devin Jeglum each hit two-run doubles and Bryan Doyle added a two-run single in the inning. Pec finished the second with eight walks, six hits, a hit-batsman and two errors.

Sophomore Tannar Johnson got the win on the hill, striking out two hitters, while allowing just four hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Chris Hendrickson finished 2-for-3 with a double. Lee Vlasak had a pair of hits and Caleb Feller doubled.

Pecatonica 2, Mineral Point 1

In the championship game, the Vikings scored both runs after freshman Tanner Kleppe walked and was driven in.

Though Pecatonica was held to just three hits by the state's eighth-ranked team in Division 3, Vikings pitcher Taylor Berg was even better, allowing just a single hit, a walk, and two hits batsmen.

"We had two good pitching performances today by our sophomores," Pecatonica head coach Jim Strommen said. "We also had some great defense. Our guys didn't strike out a ton of hitters, and that meant that we had to make plays.

"It's a good way to end the week before our big game against Barneveld (Monday)."

Wisconsin Heights 12, New Glarus 2

NEW GLARUS - The Knights only managed two hits in the first game of a doubleheader, and trailed 10-2 after four innings.

Lane Sunde and Matt Felt had both of New Glarus' hits. Ryan Bright was charged with the loss on the hill. New Glarus committed three errors. The Vanguards had 12 hits, including a home run by Micah Barsness.

Wisconsin Heights 4, New Glarus 1

NEW GLARUS - Nick Stuessy allowed seven hits, while striking out four hitters, but took the loss on the hill for the Knights.

Wisconsin Heights scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings. New Glarus finished with nine hits, but could only push across Dan Harried in the fifth inning.
