Pec wins Six Rivers East title

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica junior Gavin Burdick went 2-for-4 with one RBI to propel the Vikings to a 4-2 win over Barneveld and an outright Six Rivers East Conference championship Thursday.

Pecatonica (20-4, 18-4 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Pecatonica sophomore A.J. Hendrickson delivered a two-run, two-out single to give the Vikings the lead.

"The kids have done a great body of work for us," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "The kids have done a great job throughout the year. There are not many conferences that play 22 conference games. It's a great accomplishment. They have earned it."

Barneveld battled back to tie the game at 2 in the top of the fifth. The Vikings answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Burdick came through with an RBI double and Dakota Conwell had an RBI single.

Pecatonica junior Brooks Chandler went 2-for-4. Hendrickson started on the mound and pitched three innings. He gave up one run on two hits. Chandler pitched two innings in relief and surrendered one run on two hits. He struck out one and walked two. Senior teammate Drew Schliem pitched two shutout innings in relief and struck out four.

"I just wanted to give them all some innings," Strommen said. "It gave them the opportunity to get some work in."

Pecatonica received a No. 2 regional seed and will have a bye in the first-round of the postseason Tuesday. Pecatonica will play the winner of Barneveld and Southwestern in a regional semifinal game Wednesday in Blanchardville.



Argyle 14, Potosi 0

ARGYLE - The Argyle baseball team swept a doubleheader from Potosi Thursday.

The Orioles beat the Chieftains 14-0 in the first game and 9-6 in the second game of the twinbill. With the wins, Argyle improves to 15-10, 14-8 Six Rivers East.

Argyle sophomore Collin Argue had three hits and three RBI to lead the Orioles in Game 1. teammates Brock Bruehlman and Riley Ostby each had two hits. Ostby drove in two runs.

Argyle senior COlton Ploessl pitched a complete game to get the win.

In Game 2, Argyel's Kyle Olson and Cam Treuthardt each had two hits.

Treuthardt and Bruehlman each had two RBI.

Olson pitched a complete game to get the win.

Argyle eanred a No. 1 regional seed in the WIAA Division 4 tournament. The Orioles will have a first-round bye Tuesday. Argyle will play the winner of Faith Chrtistian and Black Hawk Wednesday.



Cambridge 11, New Glarus 3

NEW GLARUS - Junior Austin Schlueter went 3-for-3 and scored one run, but Cambridge knocked off New Glarus 11-3 Thursday.

Cambridge had a three-run third to take a 3-1 lead. The Blue Jays scored three runs in the fourth and five runs in the seventh. Cambridge's Austin Haugen went 3-for-5 with five RBI. Teammate Zach Haugen went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

New Glarus junior Gavin Binger drove in two runs for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus senior Koner French pitched four innings and gave up six runs - two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out four and walked one. Sophomore teammate John Chenoweth pitched three innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits. Chenoweth struck out one and walked one.



Darlington 3, Fennimore 2

FENNIMORE - The Darlington baseball team will roll into the regional tournament with some momentum after hanging on to beat Fennimore 3-2 Thursday.

Darlington senior Cole McDonald went 2-for-3 and senior Jason Singer was 2-for-4.

Darlington (15-5, 13-1 SWAL), the league champions received a No. 2 regional seed and have a first-round bye Tuesday. The Redbirds will play the winner of Cuba City and Wisconsin Heights Wednesday in Darlington.

McDonald pitched a complete game to get the win. He gave up two earned runs on five hits. He struck out eight and walked three. Fennimore was plagued by three errors.
