Pec tops Monticello; Brodhead gets W

MONTICELLO - Pecatonica walked away with a 10-7 win at Monticello thanks to 14 bases on balls.

"Five of the walks ended up scoring," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "They (walks) kill you."

Miah Brokopp allowed seven hits but walked 14 to take the loss on the mound for the Ponies. Lexi McSherry got the win, allowing seven runs in five innings with three strikeouts, a walk and eight hits. Nina McKeon got the save, pitching the final two frames, striking out the side in each while scattering two walks and a hit.

Monticello took a 1-0 lead after the first, but the Vikings scored seven runs over the next three innings to take a 7-1 advantage. The Ponies then put up a six-spot in the bottom of the fourth to tie it at 7. Pecatonica regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh.

McKenna Pfeuti was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Monticello. Teammates Jacy Rufer and Hannah Zanow each were 2-for-4. Pecatonica's Abby Loomis was 2-for-4 with a triple.



Brodhead 3, Evansville 2

EVANSVILLE - It took eight innings, but the Cardinals came away with a big Rock Valley win Tuesday.

Azzy Steiner struck out 10 batters and had an RBI at the dish for the Cardinals.

McKenna Bump had two hits and Hannah Myhre notched a pair of walks for Brodhead.

The game went scoreless for the first five innings, and the two teams scored a run each in the sixth and seventh.



Mineral Point 8, Darlington 2

MINERAL POINT - The Redbirds were one-hit and Alyssa Tuescher allowed 11 hits and two walks in the loss.

Bethany McDonald had three walks for Darlington and teammate Chelsea Golackson hit a 2-RBI double in the fifth to score both Redbird runs.

Mineral Point scored four runs in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth. Golackson's 2-run double brought it back to 5-2, but the Pointers scored two more in the bottom of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.



Barneveld 10, Argyle 2

ARGYLE - Errors came back to haunt Argyle in a Six Rivers East Conference loss to Barneveld.

Argyle (2-11, 2-10 Six Rivers East) committed eight errors and that led to nine unearned runs for the Golden Eagles.

"This has been the story of our entire season," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "They know how to do it. They just need to execute and we didn't execute."

Barneveld's Audrey Hendrickson pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up two runs on five hits, struck out 11 and walked three.

Argyle junior Kirsten Ostby went 3-for-4 at the plate, while senior teammate Kaylie Berget pitched a complete game and gave up 10 runs (one earned) on 10 hits and with two walks.

Offensively, Barneveld (8-4, 3-3 Six Rivers East) was led by Kristi Leahy, who finished 4-for-5, and Brooklyn Hogan-Weier (2-for-5).
