BLANCHARDVILLE - With his team trailing 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Pecatonica baseball coach Jim Strommen tested his team to step up and come back against the third-ranked Golden Eagles. No slouch themselves, the 10th-ranked Vikings answered their coach's call, and rallied back to win 8-7 in a conference thriller.

"We weren't playing well defensively," Strommen said. "Once we saw that we were down 6-0, I challenged the team to see what they were made of. And credit to the players, they responded well."

In the first three innings of work, Barneveld ran out to a 4-0 lead, prompting Pecatonica's Lucas McKeon to come into relief. After giving up two more runs in the fourth, the Vikings responded with three runs of their own, sparking the comeback. Trailing by one run in the bottom of the seventh, Chase Norton singled to even the score at seven apiece. With runners in scoring position, sophomore Dalton James came up clutch with an RBI single to give the Vikings the decisive victory.

"This is a team game, and we picked up each other tonight," Strommen said. "Our team made the plays when we needed to."

Columbus 11,

New Glarus 1

NEW GLARUS - The visiting Cardinals jumped out with six runs in the first inning in a Capitol conference crossover game against host New Glarus on Tuesday. While the Knights scored one in the first, the gap proved to be too much to overcome as Columbus won 11-1.

"We kind of gave them three to four extra outs," Knights coach Ross Eddy said. "And they (Columbus) took advantage of it."

Kyle Xistris-Songpanya batted 2-for-2, including a double to lead the Knights (1-12, 1-10). Austin Schluter finished 1-for-2 with a double.

The Knights will play Marshall on Friday May, 16.

Riverdale 7, Darlington 0

RIVERDALE - A slow start on both ends of the ball plagued the Redbirds in a conference game against Riverdale, in which Darlington fell behind early en route to a 7-0 conference loss.

"We kind of struggled a little bit early on with our pitching," Redbirds coach Matt Austin said. "Then we just weren't able to pick it up on the other end. We've been fairly consistent offensively up to this point, (but) we got a good look at some of our pieces that will definitely help us moving forward."

Junior firstbaseman Ben Muhlstein was 2-for-3 to lead the Redbirds (5-4, 5-4). Darlington will play Fennimore on Thursday, May 15.

Evansville collected all 14 of its runs in the second and third innings on eight total hits. Brodhead-Juda committed five errors in the game.
