BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica Vikings have struggled this year, with just one win on the season. At halftime of Thursday's game against Parkview, many in the crowd started to believe win No. 2 was just a few minutes away.
Parkview, leading just 29-25 at the half, outscored Pecatonica 32-9 in the second half to win the nonconference bout 61-34.
"We lost Abby Loomis to a head injury in the second half," Pecatonica coach Bobby Rose said. "She's out point guard and we trust her to control the ball. With her down we had to turn to freshmen and sophomores, and they struggled."
Parkview started to press in the middle of the first half. Pecatonica led 8-1 to open the game, but after going to the press Parkview flipped the score around completely and led by 10 at one point.
"We were able to break the press later on, but by that point it had changed the game," Rose said. "There were 12 minutes in that first half that we played our best basketball all year."
Parkview's Kristine Mumm led all scorers with 17 points. Three other Parkview players scored at least 7. Lexi McSherry led Pecatonica with 7 points.
Pecatonica (1-9) has to bounce right back, as they host Weston on Saturday and then the state's top-ranked team in Black Hawk on Tuesday.
"We've got three games in six days. It's a tough stretch," Rose said.
Black Hawk 62, Albany 23
SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk sophomore Natalie Leuzinger and freshman Bailey Butler combined to drill eight 3-pointers and scored 36 points to lead the Warriors to a win over Albany Thursday.
With the win, Black Hawk (12-0, 5-0 Six Rivers East), ranked No. 1 in the Division 5 WisSports.net Coaches Poll, remains one game ahead of Argyle in the conference. Leuzinger scored a game-high 19 points and knocked down three 3-pointers. Butler added 17 points and hit five 3-pointers.
The Warriors used a press early on to set the tone against the Comets (4-8, 2-3).
"It was pretty effective early on," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said of the press. "They had 20 turnovers in the first half. I think it certainly created some extra possessions."
Albany senior Brook Kahler had a team-high 10 points. Black Hawk led 43-16 at the half and cruised from there. The Warriors in the second half outscored the Comets 19-7.
Cambridge 48,
New Glarus 31
NEW GLARUS - Cambridge's Joriann Clary scored a game-high 20 points to help the Blue Jays knock off New Glarus (5-7, 0-2 Capitol South).
Cambridge's Elysse Stein added 15 points. The Blue Jays (11-1, 2-0) led the Glarner Knights 21-6 at the break.
New Glarus senior Willow Lee scored a team-high 12 points.
Darlington 79, Boscobel 53
DARLINGTON - Junior Kaylee Meyers scored a game-high 21 points and was one of four players in double figures for the Redbirds, who cruised past Boscobel.
Darlington (8-3, 5-0 SWAL) hit eight 3-pointers. Meyers knocked down three of the team's 3-pointers. Senior Kennedy Rankin added 11 points for the Redbirds, who tied atop the league with Cuba City.
The Redbirds jumped out to a 10-point lead at the half, 35-25. Darlington outscored the Bulldogs 44-28 in the second half. Senior teammate Emma teammate Kathleen Mathias and Casey Glendenning each chipped in 10 points.
In other girls basketball action, Argyle edged Barneveld 48-44. With the win, Argyle (10-1, 5-1 Six Rivers East) is in sole possession of second place in the conference and trails Black Hawk by one game. Barneveld (4-8, 3-2) sits in third.

ORFORDVILLE - Brodhead senior Brekan Day scored a game-high 31 points, but Parkview tipped the Cardinals Thursday night.
Brodhead (3-6, 2-4 Rock Valley) led by 10 points at the half, 41-31. Parkview outscored the Cardinals 51-37 in the second half.
Senior Parker Johnson had 21 points for the Cardinals, junior Dawson Van Whye chipped in 12 points and junior Dawson McGinty added 11.
Parkview's Riley Carroll had 23 points and hit three 3-pointers and Justin Balch added 20 points. The Vikings were 11 of 26 shooting from 3-point range.
