Pec girls earn first win

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica senior Brooke Johnson scored a game-high 11 points and the Vikings made free throws when it counted to pull out a thrilling 31-28 win over Black Hawk in overtime Tuesday.

Pecatonica (1-14, 1-6 Six Rivers East) made 8 of 14 free throws in the extra session to seal the win.

"They stepped up and made the free throws down the stretch," Pecatonica coach Aaron Lancaster said. "I think it increases our confidence to finally get over the hump with a win. It shows they can do good things in late-game situations."

Black Hawk (3-11, 2-5 Six Rivers East) outscored the Vikings 3-0 in the second quarter to take an 8-6 lead at the half. The Vikings outscored the Warriors 10-7 in the extra session by getting the ball inside and drawing fouls.

Pecatonica junior Sam Mabin added eight points. Black Hawk junior Aleigha Sigafus scored a team-high 10 points and junior Abby Baumgartner chipped in eight points.



Albany 39, Juda 35

ALBANY - During a pink-out cancer research fundraiser, Albany junior Melissa Shunk scored a team-high 15 points to propel the Comets to a comeback 39-35 win over Juda Tuesday.

Juda led 37-34 entering the fourth quarter. Albany (4-12, 3-5 Six Rivers East) overcame a six-point second-half deficit by outscoring the Panthers 15-8 in the fourth quarter.

"We got good looks and we were patient," Albany coach Adam Wamsley said. "We were able to chip away. We just kept fighting. I'm proud of them to grind it out."

Albany junior Sydnee Woyak added seven points. The Comets made 13 of 25 free throws, but were 7 of 12 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.

Juda sophomore Chelsea Burkhalter scored a game-high 19 points. Sophomore teammate Sara Jordan and freshman teammate Hailey Kammerer each added six points. With the loss, Juda drops to 6-9, 2-5.



Barneveld 71, Argyle 32

BARNEVELD - Barneveld, the No. 1 ranked Division 5 team, is in the driver's seat to win a third straight conference championship after rolling to a 71-32 win over Argyle.

Barneveld (14-0, 7-0 Six Rivers East), which has won 35 straight conference games, jumped out to a 21-12 lead against the Orioles and the lead grew to 20 points at the half.

Barneveld's Hannah Whitish scored a game-high 15 points and Maggie Oimoen added 12 points.

Argyle senior Jenna Langmeier scored a team-high nine points. Senior Hannah Saalsaa and junior Jozey Thoman each added eight points. With the loss, Argyle drops to 10-6, 6-2 Six Rivers East.



Brodhead 41, Edgerton 24

BRODHEAD - Junior guard Kylie Moe scored a game-high 17 points and made three 3-pointers to help the Cardinals cruise to a 41-24 win over Edgerton.

Brodhead (11-4, 9-2 Rock Valley South) jumped out to a 10-4 lead and led 24-9 at the half.

The Cardinals made six 3-pointers. Brodhead freshman Erin Nyhus scored 11 points and hit three 3-pointers.

Riverdale 65, Darlington 46

RIVERDALE - Amanda Meister scored a game-high 18 points to lead Riverdale to a 65-46 win over Darlington.

Riverdale jumped out to a 14-7 lead, and the lead was extended to 20 points at the half, 36-16. Riverdale's Macey Klebesadel added 17 points.

Darlington sophomore Callie Norton scored a team-high 17 points. Sophomore teammate Taryn Rankin added nine points and senior Mariah Wiegel chipped in seven points. The Redbirds did most of their damage at the free-throw line hitting 17 of 25.
