Pec-Argyle sees success at Mid-States

WHITEWATER - Pecatonica-Argyle had four wrestlers win two matches during the first day of the Mid-States Wrestling Classic at UW-Whitewater on Tuesday.

Ross Gilbertson, the Vikings' heavyweight grappler, lost his first-round match to Clinton's Jacob Bobolz 5-4. Gilbertson then picked up a pair of pin victories in the consolation bracket, including a 58 second rout of Nicolet's Nate Patton.

Ian Sigg (189 pounds), fell to Iowa-Grant's Austin Kite before pinning Kenosha Tremper's Ken Hyde in 1:48. Sigg then knocked off Wrightstown's Shawn Jandrey 5-2.

At 130 pounds, Chris James won by major decision (9-1) over Patrick Conard in the first round, but was pinned by Lake Mills' Rob Waters in the second round. James then pinned Belvidere North's (Ill.) John Stillwell in 1:33.

Ethan Averill (112) won his opening round match with a 4-3 decision over Cedar Grove-Belgium's Devon Villareal but lost to Clinton's Daniel Banh via pin. In the consolation round, Averill pinned Sugar River's Taylor Christen in 3:51.

At 152 pounds, Travis Gilson picked up a win in his second match, 8-6 over Cedar Grove-Belgium's Dalton Pieffer.

Tyler Francois (140) picked up a win in his second match. Francois pinned Ozaukee's Alex Thill in 1:37.

Sugar River's Young-Chul Vetterli (135) won his first match via a pin. Vetterli capped the victory over Beloit Turner's Seth Haskins in 4:55.

Vetterli's teammate, Brooks Hendrickson (140) pinned Clinton's Jason Rosales in his second match in 2:26.
