BELMONT - The Juda-Albany softball team got some clutch hitting and held on for an 8-5 win over Belmont Thursday.
Juda-Albany freshman Nicki Becker went 2-for-4 with two RBI and junior Jessica Crull was 2-for-5. The Panthers came through with a six-run second inning. Crull had an RBI single and sophomore Sara Jordan delivered a two-run double. Becker added a key two-run single to help the Panthers take a 6-0 lead. With the win, Juda-Albany improves to 6-0, 3-0 Six Rivers East.
"We did what we had to do," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We hit the ball hard. We put the ball in play really well."
However, Belmont rallied from an 8-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth and a three-run sixth.
"We got a little relaxed and Belmont is a really good hitting team and takes a while to get your mojo back," Davis said. "We got a little lackadaisical and had a couple of errors and they came back."
Becker pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on six hits. She struck out two and walked two.
Beloit Turner 12, Brodhead 0
BRODHEAD - Beloit Turner senior Kelsie Packard pitched a no-hitter to lead the Trojans to a 11-0 win over Brodhead in six innings Thursday.
Packard was just one walk away from pitching a perfect game. It mark's Packard's fourth no-hitter this year. She struck out 12. Packard also did damage at the plate where she went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI. Kelsie's younger sister Kailyn Packard went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. With the win, Beloit Turner improves to 6-0, 5-0 Rock Valley South.
The Cardinals were plagued by five errors. With the loss, Brodhead drops to 0-3.
Mineral Point 9, Darlington 1
DARLINGTON - The Darlington softball team is still searching for its first win after a 9-1 loss to Mineral Point.
Darlington's Taylor Cox went 3-for-4.
Freshman teammate Chelsie Golackson was 2-for-3. Darlington senior Mariah Wiegel finished 2-for-4. The Redbirds (0-4) had nine hits and didn't commit an error.
"We played a great defensive game," Darlington coach Karen Bennett said. "When you play an errorless game and have nine hits you have to feel pretty good about the game. We are definitely improving."
Darlington pitcher Tara Reichling pitched 6 1/3 innings.
Darlington third baseman Callie Norton and shortstop Chloe Hinderman had 13 putouts combined.
Cambridge 14, New Glarus 0
CAMBRIDGE - Sarah Campbell tossed a three-hit shutout to propel Cambridge to a 14-0 win over New Glarus in five innings.
New Glarus freshman Sierra Whisler went 2-for-2 to lead the Knights.
New Glarus freshman Riley Parker pitched four innings and gave up six earned runs on 14 hits. She struck out one and walked two.
The Glarner Knights committed five errors.
Potosi 15, Pecatonica 4
BLANCHARDVILLE - Potosi jumped on Pecatonica with a six-run first inning and rolled to a 15-4 win over the Vikings in five innings.
Pecatonica (1-3) was plagued by seven errors. Pecatonica senior Emily Scoville pitched three innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out four and walked two. Pecatonica's Clara Moen pitched two innings and gave up four earned runs. She struck out two and walked seven.
Pecatonica senior Brooke Johnson and Scoville were each 2-for-3.
Waterloo 12, Belleville 2
WATERLOO - Belleville junior Miranda O'Rourke went 1-for-2 with a two-run double, but it wasn't enough as Waterloo beat the Wildcats 12-2 in five innings.
Belleville pitcher Cassidy Heller pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up 12 runs (nine earned). She struck out two and walked one.
Belleville sophomore Grace Przybyl went 1-for-1.
